SAINT VALENTINE (ONE OF MY FAVORITE)

WATCH THE FIRST PART OF THE STORY

 PRINT YOUR GUY
Pamela lives alone in a flat in Paris. One night while watching a movie, she sees a commercial for a company that claims they can print your perfect man by logging on to printyourguy.com. Excited, she rushes to her computer to order one, but when she arrives, she realizes that the product wasn't exactly what she was expecting!

  WHO IS MY VALENTINE?

This is a speaking activity that is based on the concept of speed dating so you will need to organize the seats in 2 rows, with guys on one side and girls on the other. The students must face each other and then one side, for me usually the guys, must move along one seat and the students “meet” someone new. There are 18 characters. The students have some basic information and a picture but they must “become” this person and then take it from there. There is a “scorecard” to fill in, usually by the girls, as well as questions to stimulate conversation. Then at the end, they choose who they liked the most and why. Give each pair a few minutes to chat, and then shout “change”. There isn’t any offensive content but perhaps some cultural sensitivities should be borne in mind and the entire concept may be inappropriate for some non-European cultures. Also, some of the information is local to where I live so perhaps you should consider changing that too. I hope you have fun.

HALLOWEEN

Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31, and Halloween 2020 will occur on Saturday, October 31. The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.

In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats.

THANKSGIVING DAY

In September 1620, a small ship called the Mayflower left Plymouth, England, carrying 102 passengers—a mixed group of religious separatists looking for a new home where they could freely practice their faith and other people attracted by the promise of prosperity and land ownership in the New World. After a treacherous and uncomfortable crossing that lasted 66 days, they dropped anchor near the tip of Cape Cod, far north of their intended destination at the mouth of the Hudson River. One month later, the Mayflower crossed Massachusetts Bay, where the Pilgrims, as they are now commonly known, began the work of establishing a village at Plymouth.
